This subject is intended to train students in Chinese reading comprehension and literary appreciation, and acquaint them with basic knowledge and techniques of Chinese practical writing. Through the development of techniques of reading, analyzing and appreciating Chinese works, students are expected to cultivate aesthetic taste, cultural awareness and humanistic values, as well as the ability to collect material, shape ideas, and think logically in the process of reading and writing.

This subject aims to equip students with realistic, religious, and philosophic theories on life-and-death. The life-and-death ethical topics, including abortion, euthanasia, advance care planning, suicide and organ donation, etc. will be introduced. The subject also aims to guide students to reflect life-and-death affairs both for patients and for themselves.

Medical Portuguese
This 30-hours subject aims to help the students to build up a basic knowledge of terminology in medical Portuguese, as well as using the Portuguese language in the health care setting. Students are encouraged to build their confidence in expressing themselves in Portuguese through various activities and tasks, including the development of students' Portuguese reading, writing and speaking ability required as a nurse. At the end of this subject, the students should be able to become competent in the use of Portuguese in clinical nursing practice; and demonstrate the effective Portuguese language ability to communicate verbally and in written with their clients and colleagues in the health care team.
